Satyaraj Multispeciality Hospital follows an integrated Biomedical Waste Management System along with Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to ensure safe infection control and environmental protection in accordance with Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016, CPCB guidelines, and Pollution Control Board norms.
A. Biomedical Waste Management Process
Segregation at Source
* Yellow: Infectious and anatomical waste
* Red: Contaminated recyclable plastics
* White (Translucent): Sharps (needles, blades)
* Blue: Glassware and metallic implants
Collection & Transport
* Daily collection by trained housekeeping staff
* Covered, color-coded trolleys used for transport
* Strict segregation maintained to avoid mixing with general waste
Storage & Disposal
* Temporary storage in secured biomedical waste room (≤48 hours)
* Handed over to authorized CBWTF (Common Biomedical Waste Treatment Facility)
* Disposal through approved methods such as incineration, autoclaving, shredding, and recycling
B. Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP)
The hospital operates a dedicated ETP system for treatment of liquid waste generated from:
* Operation theatres
* Laboratory services
* Laundry unit
* ICU and ward areas
ETP Process Includes
* Primary screening and sedimentation
* Chemical treatment and neutralization
* Biological treatment process
* Filtration and disinfection (chlorination/UV)
* Final discharge as per CPCB norms
Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)
A fully functional STP system is installed for treatment of domestic sewage generated within hospital premises.
STP Process Includes
* Primary treatment (screening & grit removal)
* Secondary biological treatment
* Aeration process
* Clarification and filtration
* Final disinfection before discharge
C. Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)
A fully functional STP system is installed for treatment of domestic sewage generated within hospital premises.

E. Government Approvals / Certifications
* Authorization from Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC)
* Valid consent to operate for hospital, ETP, and STP systems
* Agreement with authorized CBWTF operator
* Periodic environmental inspection compliance
* Maintenance of statutory records and reporting
D. Safety & Compliance Standards
* Compliance with Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016
* Adherence to CPCB and Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee guidelines
* Regular monitoring of ETP/STP parameters (pH, BOD, COD, TSS)
* Use of PPE by all waste handling staff
